Quite idiotic to compare vocal talents of Liza's to Barbra's, both are great, yet Miss Minnelli is also a Boffo Dancer & Actress, and usually is not caught 'out of her element', a la Barbra attempting to play Dolly Levi in that overblown, undersold Film HELLO DOLLY. No beating genetics.

Liza was a bit raw here... but what a talent blossomed and whether people admit or not she has become a parody of herself... such a shame.... to hear this song at its best listen to Barbra's version.. it soars..

Perhaps you are confusing character/theatrical singing with the work of a recording artist. She is selling the song in character. And she's amazing. I don't find it painful at all, but that's a matter of opinion.

Her talent has not been unrecognized. She has won the Tony, Oscar, Emmy and Grammy. It is true she is not at her vocal peak here, it is an early recording. If you watch a concert of hers from the 70's with her singing and dancing her ass off live (no lip syncing) I think you may change your mind about her. She is a living legend and has lived ten lives in one! It is sad that people who don't realize this make fun of her. She has nothing left to prove and can do whatever the hell she wants!

I'm sorry, but this is painful. She has charm, for sure, but vocally this is not working. I do agree that she has more talent than she has been given credit for, and has been very badly treated and maligned as she ages -- by jealous talent-free idiots, of course. It doesn't help to have become a drag queen's dream - one person's loving imitation can be another's vicious parody.
