A great song from "Heart Like a Wheel." I also love The Byrds' version.

If you've ever been out on the road alone late at night, dead tired but pushing on, floating in the night with nothing but road noise and headlights, you love this song.

Like all great songs, this music in this tune carries lyrics that speak eternal truths to a lot of folks. Whether you have ever driven a truck, lived on the road, been drunk and dirty, had your head stoved in, smuggled anything, gotten into weed, whites or wine or not, most all of us have been Willin'. Whether Lowell singing with Little Feat or covered by Linda, Black Crowes or anybody else, this song is just epically good.

original was Little Feat, song written by Lowell George who died way to young. Linda sang this again at a Lowell George tribute too a few years later. Lowell was a great song writer and singer and shared his talent with many. Started out with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Inventions but got kicked out asked to leave supposedly because of this song, Zappa was a staunch anti-drug advocate, others say Lowell was caught by Zappa smoking a joint outside a studio, whatever happened Lowell did better after leaving them and forming Little Feat.

Fuck the war on drugs, it has only brought us the meth plague, while the weed and wine are just fine.

Original is from Little Feat, of course. I fell for this song as recorder by a band called Seatrain. I swear, Linda does the greatest job on it, though. There is an intentional pause in the instrumental as you go into the chorus and nobody ever nailed it like Linda in this performance. Her version helped me to get it right.

This is how it's done. Linda's voice, lowell's tune. A dream come true. This video is a lesson in great singing and an emotional triumph.

Why I like this song, along with the obvious reason? Because I've been to Tucson to Tucumcari, Tehachapi to Tonopah, and driven every kind of rig that's ever been made. Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed. Oh, and love my weed, whites, and wine!

Thanking the heavens above for the gift of Linda Ronstadt. Wiilin' one of her finest works of vocal art. Thanks to the late great Lowell for the tune.
