Holy Moly, I know this is supposed to be a tribute and all but hip hop is supposed to be based off creativity. I have been a rap/hip hop fan since I saw the "Rock Box" video in 1983. I was brought up to believe that there is a such thing as "biting." When rappers started making remakes of classic rap songs I knew there was trouble brewing. The first I remember is "Ladi Didi" by Snoop Dogg. His album didn't even need that song, but I'm sure some record exec pushed it in hopes of making his album more "well rounded" and not totally West Coast based. Too many people are "swagger jacking" in hopes of becoming stars (there's not much record selling anymore so no need to lose sleep over that). Look at the strongest Black artist of all time...they were all ORIGINAL. You could not see or hear what they did anywhere else. Look at James Brown at the T.A.M.I show...he brought the South Carolina/Georgia funk...nobody from Motown could do it. Look at Rakim, look at Public Enemy, Wu Tang, Bone Thugs N Harmony, DMX, Mystikal, and the list goes on. Anybody that sounds similar copied them. Every artist is a hybrid of all of the elements of his/her life including musical influences but fans know "biters." Little Richard>Jimi Hendrix>Prince ... you can see the DNA tree but NO BITING. Like UTFO said "Crrrch Bite It"!!!
