Was messing around with Pandora (the music app, not the all-gifted babe in Greek mythology) and this incredible Roy Orbison song came on. You don't hear it that often because it is not one of the most cheerful songs ever recorded. Orbison had a three-octave vocal range and he hits 'em all with this heartbreaker.I instantly remembered my late friend Rickey Wright, who laid down this track as the coda to one of his famous mix tapes and gifted it to me some 29 years ago. Like most things that impact my life, I still have that tape and all the other brilliant mixes Rickey preserved on Memorex cassette tapes from his vast music collection.So here's a toast to Orbison.
