Libera - Be Still My Soul (Holocaust Rememberance)

A slightly older version from the most recent one, but still really good.

I have been listening to "Libera" for over 10 years and have a couple of their CD's, What is missing from all comments is the polished instruction from the choirmaster he should be recognized for his fabulous harmony and melody cohesion. I forget his name but he is also the organ player?

Forget having this at your funeral, I had it at my wedding, as did my parents before me.  I know the music is Finlandia, just as I know who wrote it and what it symbolises but the words are equally beautiful and symbolic, to anyone who has lost family or friends to war, whichever war. Lest we never forget those who gave their lives for the freedom of others.

It's Finlandia hymn by Jean Sibelius sung with the words of Katherina Von Schegel translated in English. It's a symbol for eventual freedom of people of Finland from Russian oppression.I really don't know what to make of the fact its chosen for holocaust memorial. As i believe it's common knowledge we were co-belligerent with the Germans.

Americans loved Sibelius. It is a tribute to him to set a hymn to his music. There are also plenty of other songs that use his melody. It was a common practice for centuries. Here, I've rewritten it to be more "progressive": Be still, my gay slave; Master is on thy side; Bear submissively the joy of exquisite pain; Leave to Master to discipline and provide; In every change you respectful shall remain. Be still, my slave; adore and obey until the end The riding crop is your joyous friend.

I won't shut up simply because you demand it. You keep dragging up the issue of athiesm because you want to preach. Religions, christianity in particular has so many hyms people can't keep track of them. Using a pre-established song that has special meaning to a country is insensitive, not because of the song they made from it, but because of people like you who think it original doesn't matter.

I don't care if you're an atheist or not. This hymn was set to "Finlandia" more than 100 years ago. You're mad at people who are dead. Like it or not, the song is an important piece of literary and musical history. Modern "atheism" is indeed bad, because you idiots want to destroy anything you don;t like, rather than understanding its importance to our civilization. Now SHADDAP.

Again you're talking about something I wasn't, I don't care if you're religious or not. I care about this song being used for something it wasn't originally made for. If you wanna preach about how atheism is bad, then you're barking up the wrong tree.

I'm not religious, but it's a gorgeous melody, and the Christian hymn words are beautiful. Too fvcking bad. I don't give a damn if you're an "atheist." If you really are an atheist, then it shouldn't make a difference to you. A true atheist would have no opinion on it. But you sound more like an ANTI-theist. Now SHADDAP.

Glad to see you're talking about something that is not related to my comment at all. If you want to use a hymn for your religion, fine, I don't particularly care. JUST DON'T USE ONE THAT IS SPECIAL TO MY COUNTRY'S INDEPENDENCE! I don't have to lower myself to insulting you and your choices to get this point across.
