I met him once. In the 70's in Mesa, Az. He was acting in a movie called "Cloud Dancer". I knew all the words to "Less Than..." and it gave him a kick when I recited it back to him in his trailer. The man who wrote the "No No" song was sipping red wine and smoking a joint. I know he won't mind me telling you that. He was a great inspiration to me and this song is so special.

Once, in 1974, when I was living in a cabin in the Ozark Mountains, a friend of a friend showed up with a fiddle and a dog and taught me this song. I'm 62 this year, no longer living in the woods, and "Less Than the Song" is still my song. So glad I could find it digitally. I only have it on vinyl.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting. I have been separated from this song for years, my vintage cassette tape vanished and unable to find the song on CD anywhere. Was there ever a sweeter voice than Hoyt's? To listen to him sing softly was like falling safe to sleep in your parent's arms... so deeply grateful for this... Blessed Be.
