On September 21st, 1963, just a week after Ricky Nelson's record, "Fools Rush In", hit the air waves (9/14/63); Quincy Jones took Lesley back into the studios, along with Claus Ogermann at the helm, arranging and conducting a set of new songs for what would be Lesley's second album- "Lesley Gore Sings Of Mixed-Up Hearts". Among the eleven songs that she would record that day are the now legendary "You Don't Own Me", and the gem/standard featured in this video. With Ogermann's magical arrangement, the song truly sparkles, and at only 17 years of age, Lesley turns a tender and brilliant vocal performance that truly belie her young age at the time. One of my favorite songs by Lesley, I wanted to bring it back into the spotlight and let new fans discover it for the first time.

She could be a double for Gillian Anderson of the 1990s TVseries "the X-Files".

RIP Angel. She was so very under rated. Timing is everything. She should have been a superstar.......

What a shock to find out she passed away and in an unpleasant way. Cancer is such a horrible disease.. My parents both died of lung cancer.. I loved her songs and courage to deal with a world that is far different from today. Her talent will be missed !! Rest In Blessed Peace, Richard Beman

Just found out from a very dear friend of mine that Leslie Gore had passed away -- I'm still in shock -- I had wanted to see her in concert but youtube will suffice! Loved her from one lesbian to another -- I had her picture and Patty Duke's hanging on my bedroom wall along with other women singers -- I like this song way better than Ricky Nelsons and if she could have put this out before his hers would have risen to the top for sure! Hands down Leslie Gore lives forever and is in Rock and Roll Heaven!

This song sounds better at a faster pace, so Rick Nelson's version is much better, IMO.The 'rolling' drums in Rick's version just sounds better.

Lesley recorded classic songs and included them in all her early albums. Most of her interpretations were better than the originals. Listen to this, and to "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" the Goffin-King oft-recorded song. Lesley's version is by far and away the best. "Before and After" from the "My Town, My Guy, and Me" album is another prime example of how Lesley takes a classic and makes it even better, with her strong singing and vocal interpretation.
