For those of you wondering, this song was inspired by the post-modern disparity between faith and knowledge--religion and science. Helmut Vonlichten (and his brother) were well-known Christians, drawing much inspiration from their faiths. In fact, look through the album arts of their works. You will find a surprising amount of hidden Crosses, references to the Church and Scripture (Cartographer, Unearthed, MDUST), and abstract allusions to the trinity (in the form of triangles, three lines/shadows together, miscellaneous things in threes, etc.).Even the "t" in Les Fric"t"ion is an obvious cross.This song proposes the struggle of a believer forcefully reclaiming a sense of lonely identity in the stance that God is not dead--he is, as the speaker is stating, still alive. Listen to the lyrics, it makes absolute sense.
