I owned every Laura Nyro album I could get my hands on. Truly unsung. I learned of her in my freshman year in high school. Blew me away...all the hits she wrote, her melancholy sound. Nyro's voice fell between notes like hot butter over cracked crab -- raw, fresh, messy while filling your belly and satiating your soul. In a class by herself. Greatly influenced my style of singing.

When I bought the album "Eli and the Thirteenth Confession" in 1968 and opened the plastic wrap you could smell her perfume. Something they could do back then with albums to put a personal touch on them. She had the most beautiful voice and wrote so many amazing songs with such feeling.

I used to listen and sing with my Laura Nyro records. That was when I was 16. My sister took me to see her in concert and Ioved her even more. Now I am 59 and after looking alot I discovered Amazon sells her music and I bought allmost all her CDs.I am older now and recognizing even more what an artist she was.
