The choir is actually in the choir section of the cathedral. While there is an altar at the rear of the choir, it is not the main altar of the cathedral. The main altar is in the middle of the transept. In Notre Dame, this main altar is a very modern brass altar with images of the twelve apostles. This main altar is obscured in this video as the Mass celebrants are sitting in front of it.

Why is the choir placed by the altar??? It is unacceptable! Nowadays the Mass is more and more looking like a musical concert, where the Mass is just an "nice adjunct" to the concert.
