Great musician. But he should have spit more sex in the direction of the audience. Or any sex at all. These guys don't have to be super models or even good looking, though for reasons I don't understand, women must be skinny wear tons of make up and dye their hair platinum blonde. But all singers need to spit sex in the general direction of the audience. That's part of the package. The instrumentalists don't need to and maybe he thought more along those lines.

There is no one better than Paul to capture the emotions evoked by the lyrics of a song. I have been a fan for a long, long time. I unfortunately never had the opportunity yet to see and hear him in person.

Paul Brady of the Lakes of Pontchartrain, i have this wonderfull song as the ringtone on my phone, Lousiana and New Orleans has been my spiritual home for many years because of my interest in the French Cajun music tradition and i just love the place.

we also Paul at the Saenger in New Orleans the other night. It was an inspired and energetic solo performance and this song was a wonderful way to close out his set. It was made all the more special when he told the audience that he has been singing the song for 35 years but that this was his first time in New Orleans and the first time to see Lake Pontchartrain. Paul told me after the show that he had made a decision some time ago to always enjoy himself during a performance - he obviously enjoyed his first night in New Orleans.

We were lucky enough to see Paul last night, he played before Bonnie Raitt at the Saenger in New Orleans. He told the story about the original Ballad back in the 1860's post Civil War New Orleans and how it was picked up in Ireland in the 1930's and adapted. He had just seen Lake Pontchartrain that day for the first time, and has been playing this song for many years. Cool story, so lucky to have seen him perform it live.

There is a "lake" (actually an estuary) called Lake Pontchartrain that divides New Orleans from the "North Shore" (my hometown of Slidell, etc.). The phrase "Lakes of Pontchartrain" refers to Pontchartrain and also to Lake Maurepas to its west.

OOh My Dear God - this is so well and subtly sung - so Irish Never heard Paul before - what an artist Now I know for sure my favorite sing/song hero of all time Mr Loudon Wainwright (USA) is of Irish descent - Paul and Loudon should have done a song together - even their guitar play is VERY akin and familiar and heartful - wow, am I glad I'm in the Catholic Tradition ... or Beauty & Joy (which is the opposite of Jelousy frnst / etc)

"if it weren't for the alligators I'd sleep out in the woods". That is an epic line right there.
