So delighted to see where Elvis found the inspiration to include this beautiful song on his first gospel album. So thankful for your posting. Hope to record this myself one day for CBSEye. - JG

This is a beautiful song and I love to hear Jake Hess. I was honored to shake his hand and he is just so gracious. Love the words of this song. Gwen Weaver

Mr. Vernon Presley (Elvis father) loved this song. It was his favourite.

"I don't know what the future holds but I know who holds the future." That's a brilliant lyric.

I grew up with this great quartet! that looks like Mount Zion Baptist church in the background. Hovie was pastor there for years.

I certainly know why Elvis wanted this sung (by Jake) at his funeral. It is one of the most beautiful and powerful inspirational songs of the Christian faith. Simply beautiful and moving --- in a nutshell, what the Christian faith embodies. Thank you ClassicGospel for posting this beautiful hymn!

Yes, he did. There was a talent show called Ted Mack's Amateur Hour and Elvis didn't make it. Ted Mack could have kicked his own rear for that one.

Thanks for clearing this up for me. It's to bad that there are no recordings of Elvis singing with the Statesmen and The Blackwoods....WOW ! What a CD that would make .....

Elvis never did audition for anybody. Elvis did sing with the Blackwoods and the Statesmen. This story has been has been misunderstood! There was a group that srang from the Blackwoods that was called " The Songfellows" Elvis filled in for one of the members of this group but could not do the harmony so Elvis discontinued with " The SongFellows" This was said by James Blackwood himself.. Also Elvis admired Jake Hess and the Big Chief of the Statesmen.

Is it true that Elvis ( before he was known as ELVIS ) auditioned for and was turned down by the Statesmen ? I did'nt know they sng at his funeral . Who sang at his mothers ? I heard it was the Blackwood Brothers..........

This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and Jake did the greatest of great presentations with that wonderful and never forgetable voice. Thanks for posting this one and all of the Statesmen's videos/songs.

thanks to Elvis I found The Statesmen, Blackwood Brothers, Jordanaires and The Stamps. And through them, all other classic southern Gospel quartets. Too bad so few people know what an immense impact these quartets have on modern music.

I first got to know this amazing gospel by Elvis Presley and it got one of my favorites, that he admired "The Statesmen" and especially Jake Hess. How wonderful they did this song! Thanks for sharing!

I remember in the 60s listening to these songs on the old phonograph; no one like them! A rare sound - like the original B;ackwoods whom my brothers and I have had the privilege of singin with Dan Cottekill, NY
