I wonder if Adele lists Kirsty MacColl as one of her influences.

Elvis Costello isn't good enough to be the male Kirsty MacColl. Kirsty MacColl is more of a female Morrissey.

@k8fan Nope. That's not it either. I swear the first time I heard In These Shoes? I swear it was one of hers. The smooth torch song voice, the big band feel to the music ... and something about blowing your brains out or opening your skull or something to that effect but in a real dead pan tone. Meant to be funny but sounding nonchalantly serious.

@phoenix3370 That sounds like her song "Bad" I've been an awful woman all my life A dreadful daughter and a hopeless wife And I've had my eyes on that carving knife Oh you've been lucky so far I'm not crazy no I'm just mad I don't want to be sorry, no I want to be glad It's a feeling inside that I have always had So look out world I'm about to be bad ...but that's not really Mexican.

There is a song I once heard believe it or not in the bathroom in an Olive Garden, that sounded like something Kirsty would have done but I have never found it. It has that kind of 40s torch song feel to the female vocals that Kirsty sometimes does. It was about a woman discussing the different ways she could kill a man. The background music was that big band with a Mexican influence that Kirsty used in "In these Shoes?" Any ideas?

She brings it on this one. Hardly recognized Gary Sanford (from original Joe Jackson Band) with his long hair. He's a great talent.

@Marchant2 When you have large sums of money and a corrupt justice system you can get away with murder.

kirsty will always be my favorite. i met her when she played the TLA in philly...all i could say was "i am not worthy" and she signed an autograph. her death was tragic and heartbreaking. every time i'm in london i try to get to soho square to pay respects at her bench...

You guys are so lucky to have met this amazing woman. Fantastic lyricist, incredible talent. Kirsty makes me so happy, and I'm sad that she had so much more to give us.

@k8fan That's right! I think she gave a shout out to the Smiths as well. And everyone yelled out "Big Money!" during Innocence and she was just amazed. She was really sweet.

@caveatemp I was at that show. She introduced "They Don't Know" by yelling "God bless Tracy Ullman!" We met her after the show and took a picture that is the one on her Wikipedia entry.

I love Kirsty! I saw her in Chicago at the Double Door. So unassuming. She was so surprised when people yelled out lyrics at times, like she couldn't believe people knew her music that well.
