From the album "Voyeur" (1982) comes this extremely moving ballad by Kim Carnes. Even though the album couldn't repeat the success Carnes had with "Bette Davis Eyes" and "Mistaken Identity" the year before, this LP still ranks among her finest works. "Breakin' Away From Sanity" complete with a children's choir near the end is one of her most emotional ballads.

The character of the woman singing this song has to be tremendous. Absolutely moving performance.

I too think the children choir took away the depth of the song. I am still waiting for Lighthouse to released on CD and then my collection will be complete for Kim.

This is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. And also one of the most beautiful in its simplicity. Who hasn't wanted to check out or "break away" when things are dark and dismal.

This is also my favorite Kim Carnes song, so simple and haunting as someone already said.....it reminds me a little of "Crazy In Love", her single from '88. As people say all the time, they just don't make music like this anymore.

-since I first got hold of the album (at age :7!) I was deeply in love with this theme, that tears down the walls of music into a new universe... Love to KC from NYC, Chris Cowley

I am glad you've visited the KC fan club website! I updated it yesterday. Kim will perform live in Argentina and USA (TN and GA). About "Breaking Away From Sanaty", it was the first time KC worked with a children chorus. On the 90's she did it again on the songs "Look Through Children's Eyes" (from Checkin' Out the Ghosts" album, 1991) and "Away In A Manger" (Christmas' song).

One of the best KC ballads. Children chorus includes her oldest son Collin Ellingson, Donna De Lorry (future Madonna's backing singer) among others. Although I love this song, this track didn't fit well in a new wave & rock'n'roll album as "Voyeur". I believe the EMI staff interfered a lot on this album - and the album was released in September 1982 when too many albums used to be released on the market.
