Most people who play a musical instrument just play it and are able to do a reasonable good job of it. Ken was not like most people. When ken play the organ he made it talk. He played outside the box. Wow.......what a talent. I play the hammmond organ and it would take a life time for me to make my hammond sound like his if I ever could accomplish this feat.

Sounds like 1 168BPM waltz on the roller skates. Any skaters on this site?

Ken played the Wurlitzer electrostatic reed organ on large number of recordings, even sharing the same albums as Hammond ( and usually 50/50 in terms of song count). The average listener wouldn't know the Hammond from the Wurlitzer. In fact many Hammond organ players wouldn't know the difference, but a player of these great Wurlitzer electromechanical wonders would know. Ken probably thought his TV show- 67 Melody Lane (all Wurlitzer) sounded 'wooden' because he didn't use his usual amps/spkrs.

This video brings back wonderful memories. Around 1959, my Dad bought this record. In fact. His name was Ken, and he looked a little like the guy on the album cover. He danced with my mom in the living room as the music played. Both my parents are gone now, but at the time, my mom was in her 20's and my Dad was around 30 or 31. Finding this song again means a lot.

Hi Lindy, Many thanks for the contact, we are both drawn to one thing. This as you will have seen was recoded with the Hammond XM 1C & the XM1 which is quite a true Hammond sound, I do have a Hammond TTR 100 but at the moment I am awaiting spares for it. Best wishes, Bryan.

My parents imported a Wurlitzer from US in 1963 so my interest started at age 13 yrs...best thing that ever happened. I always loved the Hammond though. Ken Griffin was my favourite at the time!

His fingers are never idle...he kind of rolls from chord tot chord.....that adds that something' to his playing.......and he just 'knows' when to pause ...how long...and when to back off volume...wish I was that good.....a treat to listen to each time....been listening to it since it came out in the late 40's

You are right. As a little boy I had both versions at one time or another on 78's. The Rondo label; , later Ken remade this after he went to Columbia, although I wonder how long after the instrumental was raleased the vocal was dubbed on.

I know what you are talking about the skating. I skated to his music at the KB Roller Rink in East Liverpool, Ohio and learned how to dance skating. I fell in love there and my husband and I enjoyed all of his organ music.; I have alot of his music and I lossed my husband and so the tears to fall.

A beautiful piece that I never get tired of hearing and sometimes playing. Love Ken Griffin's music and he had a distinctive style that is difficult to copy.
