Kelly Joe Phelps: 10/5/1959- Another belated happy birthday to this award-nominated country blues singer-songwriter and guitarist. After years studying jazz greats and performing in the genre, Phelps made the life-changing transition to the blues after hearing an album by the late Mississippi Fed McDowell. Since his debut in 1994 with Lead Me On, he has further explored the roots of the Delta, as well as folk and Americana, to build his own style bolstered by improvisational skills picked up from his jazz days.
