Kathleen Battle is my all time favourite singer. The sound is so warm, clear and full or character. She has such a special timbre. But I'm always surprised by how many people comment on the size of her voice. It's so irrelevant. It doesn't matter how big or small a voice is as long as it has quality and the singer is generous with their expression. Timbre, beauty, freedom and expression - these are the things that matter, not size.

Absolutely agree. I only saw her once and was astonished how even more wonderful the sound was in person. And can we talk about the fact that, despite the size, she had multiple colors, she had morbidezza when she wanted and she phrased beautifully. The section from 4:02 to 5:15. Classical vocalism doesn't get better, despite the small voice.

for those who saw her live: a special voice. Tiny, but it glittered like a diamond. Difficult to fit into the strange world of big house opera. How things have changed nowadays, she makes me want to put my iPhone away and just enjoy.

Magically beautiful. Worth comparing to Barbara Hendricks ( similarly sensitive & rapturous). These are the best.

@shivastotravali seriously...get a life. i'm sick of losers like you who know nothing about kathleen battle except hearsay, commenting on videos of her about her personality (when you probably have never met her), when CLEARLY this upload was intended to reflect NOTHING else except her glorious vocal instrument. That's what made her the interantional star that she still is today.

I know how you feel. What's odd to me is that so many of her best performances reflect great collaboration, she and Solti here are singing a lovely duet, the chorus is so nice, it just makes you wonder why she never recognized the importance of those collaborations.
