I grew up with Kate but never knew she was this good. There was nothing she couldn't do: Christmas, spirituals, rock and roll, jazz, pop, and even Operetta. (Listen to her sing Victor Herbert's "Kiss Me Again"! And even when in her 60s, arguably she sang her best! Then there's "God Bless America", which alone puts her in the Pantheon of American Singers!11 years назад

Interesting that even though Kate Smith's version of this great late 1920's tune is better, in my opinion, than say, Ethel Water's version, there are no comments and minimal views on it. However, Ethel Water's version receives so much attention ? I don't get it. To the musically trained ear, one can hear a weak, inconsistent vibrato in Water's voice, while Smith's voice is stronger and she has better control of her vibrato.
