I could be losing it but Kate seems like Bob Dylan between 1:18 - 1:28.Out of 100s of female singers, Kate is one of just 15 ladies whose sublime vocals can truly touch my heart. I rank her vocal skill and emoting with the greats like Joan Baez, Roberta Flack, Patsy Cline, Gladys Knight, Dinah Washington or Julee Cruise. I'm left feeling like a wide-eyed lad again. Kate is rare in combining top-notch technical vocal "gymnastics" eg. Wuthering Heights, Coffee Homeground & Blow Away with deeply moving vocals eg. And Dream of Sheep,Under The Ivy, Oh England my Lion-heart & This Woman's Work, and self-penned poeticgems like Hounds of Love, Breathing and The Ninth Wave. Her poetry, her dance and theatrics, her musicianship - playing, arranging & producing,her strict perfectionism and self-criticism, her charm, humour, modesty and intelligence in public appearances, her hugely refined taste in music, literature and the arts, her Englishness, her radiant inner and outer beauty, all combine to create a one-in-a-million gem of an artist. Even if she knocks her early stuff it's still a treasure.To paraphrase Elton John: "It's been 40 years and the next Kate Bush hasn't come along."And she never will.
