Can anyone (preferably who reads the Japanese language site) say which Japanese myth this is based on? I strongly suspect it was something that Kamelot came up with and the interviews with Youngblood didn't really give... a straight answer. I definitely couldn't find anything in Ashliman's Folktexts or any other folktale archive.The only fictional work I know that would be similar is Butterfly Lovers which was also popular in Japan, and the story is very very different. Like, involving crossdressing. The death part also happens at the very end rather than when the girl is 15.
