To be fair, Viking metal IS a genre. Just listen to Bathory's Hammerheart, you may notice clear differences between Quorthon's Blood Fire Death'sound and the one in Quorthon's Hammerheart. The one you heard in Hammerheart is Viking Metal, not just for the lyrics. It's the same for Epic Metal. It is a genre, not just lyrics. Listening to Manowar, Manilla Road and other bands of the '80s, you may notice they had something in common beyond lyrics. I agree about Amon Amarth. : )
