Really? There is shit on both ends of the spectrum. There is really shitty metal and good metal, as well as shitty rap and good rap. It depends on where you look. If all you look at as far as rap is the mainstream shit on the radio or whatever, then I'd agree with TheDamnedPanda. The thing is, most "mainstream" metal and related core bands (Slipknot or Bullet for my Valentine come to mind) are fucking garbage. It might sound hipster-ish but it's true. You obviously don't know where to look.

Well, his generalization is generally more accurate, so it kind of does.

The fact that you can also make a sweeping generalization doesn't make you any better than those who disagree with you.

i listened to it and i was not all that impressed but at this point it all comes down to tastes in music. I will respect a musician who makes an attempt at putting their soul into music and i expect to feel that soul in their music. So let me apologize for saying rap sucks. I shouldnt talk down to any music regardless. Its not any one's place. I like what i like and you like what you like and lets leave it at that. If you stick up for you music i will respect that opinion.

And as for composing rap songs, the musical part at least, there are many producers who make very deep and well-composed beats. Just as a suggestion, look up some of DJ Shadow's work. Mainly the Endtroducing album. That entire album is made from samples and I think it's something everyone genuinely interested in music will appreciate. Maybe not like, but appreciate nonetheless.

From jazz, blues, soul music. The rapping part has it's roots in gospel music, the MC'ing. Master of ceremonies. The beats are often heavily rooted in 60's, 70's soul and 'black' music, cos thats what the producers heard when they were young. The current autotuned pulp that is being carted around under the hiphop moniker does not do the genre credit.

Personally i dont think rap belongs in the music world. Tell me what type of music does it stem from? What involves talking to the rhythm of a song? Its nothing like metal which derives from many classical and folk influences ( Ensiferum, Wintersun, Eluveitie, Kalmah, Finntroll, and many more) All of these metal bands create amazing, composed and structured music while still being heavy. When was the last time you heard about someone composing a rap song? All sarcasm aside i would like to know.

Aah, so if I stick up for rap I am not allowed to be on this page? Bigoted ignorance. It's twats like you that enjoy to polarize. For every moron like you, there's an equally ignorant wigger kid saying metal sucks and it's all just screaming. All you achieve in the end is both of you look like tardies.

if your sticking up for rap you need to get off this page. Yes screaming takes a very long time to develop just as singing does. If you actually understood how the human voice works then you would know that. But your a fan of rap so you would know nothing of that. All you have to do is talk over a beat. As for lyrics maybe you should read the lyrics for most of these metal songs and you will see that they actually tell stories and have meaning,

And how much rap have you heard? And what kind of rap? And what is your understanding of rap as a musical genre? "Screaming...actually take time to develop" Oh, as opposed to...what? Writing lyrics that are about something, have to fit in a rhyme scheme, keep the flow, fit the beat, etc? And then having the voice control to actually rap it over said beat? Because yeah, that's so easy, everyone can do that *rolls eyes* Teach thyself, so that thou may never be ignorant again.

Yeah, propagate more of the polarizing 'us vs. them' behaviour that's seen in children and unconfident teenagers. "Wah wah wah, all metal is crap" "Wah wah wah, all rap is shit" "Wah wah wah, electronic music has no soul" "Wah wah wah, Bach was a faggot" Just go fuck yourself, dude. Let me enjoy Kalmah without having to read your topvoted retardcomment insulting one of my favorite musical genres. If you have to validate your musical interests by bashing others, you're just a pathetic git.

xpd15= dipshit that takes whole genre's and washes them aside with no respect for music. metal is my go-to and most listened-to music, but there has been some great underground rap, great country, great classical, etc. don't single out a whole genre simply because you're a douchefuck. just find the good stuff and appreciate talented music
