Separate me from...

Separate this...

Life is all, life is always tales of lost and living

I could almost feel the breath that you were almost giving

I could see the silence in the way that you were talking

I could leave the signs and sirens if I could ignore it

Friday night, lose a little liberty

Saturday night, lose a lot of money

Sunday night, think about Friday

All my life, things change

Things change

Things change

Life is separated

Things change

Things change

Almost every day

In almost every way

Sights and sound of love is all that's left of modern living

Search for signs of life down alleyways of hidden cities

Friday night, lose a bit of sympathy

Saturday night, lose a lot of money

Sunday night, think about Friday

All my life, things change

Things change

Sights and sounds of modern living

I just can't do without the sights and sounds of modern living

Things change

Things change

Things change

Sights and sounds of modern living

Sights and sounds I just can't do without

Things change

Almost every day

In almost every way

Sights and sounds of modern living

I just can't do without the sights and sounds of modern living

I told the doctor, "Separate us"

He warned us, "Both may not survive"

Things change

Has anyone noticed how in the very end the piano part sounds like the Rivendell theme from LOTR?

Very Bowie-esque sounds a little like Bowie's 'Fame' single......but has a very New Romantic 80's feel to it. Can really imagine Bowie singing this.

This sounds like a Talking Heads track.

yep, thanks people, I went through a Gary Numan, Depeche Mode... The Cure? mind search to find what this sounds like - but of course - it's Bowie. Fame. Esp that bass line in the middle. Cheers for saving me from a lot of mental anguish!

Good song. Really like it. David Bowie's "Fame" is the strong influence behind this song. Pop culture as been always been green. Stars have recycle stuff since old 20's jazz records and silent movies. Good job.

@tomwantshelp I'm sure you might've heard Jagger's style as Plastic Soul, but actually listening to him and Bowie, they sound totally different. Anyway back to the Kaiser Chiefs. This song's rubbish.

@ullapoolposse I meant the album- Across The Universe and Fame, with A Day In The Life referenced, and the other lyrics have Lennon flourishes. I often hear Young Americans called "plastic soul", which was first popularised as a description of Jagger's singing style by black musicians. There was no style or humour in Bowie's Across The Universe, unlike when he stole the "fictional band" concept and wrote a fantastic album. Whilst this song isn't as good as the Berlin stuff, it is less dated.

@tomwantshelp Wasn't it Picasso who said talent borrows, but genius steals?...but if you're going to steal, do it with a bit of style, or humour, or irony. They did none of that. Also, FYI, Fame was written by David Bowie & Lennon, but released by Bowie. Young Americans *literally* features a Lennon lyric "I read the news today, oh boy", but the vocal style is nothing like that of Jagger at all. It's much more theatrical, with Bowie switching from his baritone to a falsetto.

@ullapoolposse It sounds like Fame to me, which is Lennon, not Bowie. I think "influenced" is fairer than "ripped off". Bowie is a genius, and probably the most influential artist of the era. He himself was "ripping off" The Beatles and The Stones (Young Americans is basically Bowie singing Lennon lyrics like Jagger)- because everyone was. Their willingness to draw on the work of greats like Bowie and The Beatles is good, not bad.

@tomwantshelp Yeah Tony Visconti. Who also played guitar on some of bowie's stuff in the 70's as well. But the tune is self consciously aping that era of Bowie, performances, writing etc. It's not just the production.

@ullapoolposse The album was produced by one of Bowie's producers.
