Welcome, today I will be explaining the lyrics to Drake & Future’s new song “Jumpman”. Let’s get started.

Drake begins the song with this. WHAT?!? Halloween?? Taliban?? What kind of ghoulish terrorist ballad is this? Well, it’s not one. And the explanation is quite simple, really. Drake says Halloween in reference to his record album “October’s Very Own”. He named it that because his birthday is October 24th. Not Drake’s most creative moment… this is the artistic equivalent of using your date of birth as your debit card pin.

Taliban. This is a little harder to explain, as Drake probably found when the NSA flagged it for review.

Obama Voice: Uhhh, Drake, this mixtape fire. I haven’t seen anything so lit since Michele did the nae nae, and she did whip mind you. But, we gotta clear something up, what’s this Taliban thing? I thought you were Canadian.

(ahem)

Well, it’s actually a shout-out to Metro Boomin. An up and coming producer in the hip hop world, who hashtags taliban as his trademark. It’s unclear if he realizes the enormous despair this group has inflicted on millions, but his reasoning is that he get’s wild, like the Taliban.

Jumpman, pays homage to the Greatest ever Michael Jordan. His logo for his line with Nike, is of course, jumpman.

This sounds like another terrorist reference, and could very well have been written by an NSA analyst. But Drake’s actually referring to all the speculation surrounding the release of his collaboration album with Future called “What A Time To Be Alive”.

The following lines are more straight-forward. Usher is pretty good at dancing. DJ Mustard would just be known as Mustard if he couldn’t find a tempo. And NBA player Manu Ginobli is left-handed.

He explains that he employs culinary tactics as a tool for praise and punishment of the opposite gender. Chicken fingers if he doesn’t like you.

Then out of nowhere, Drake says he needs some Robitussin. Before you start sending your get well cards, don’t worry he’s not actually fallen ill. It’s a clever play on being sick. In common urban parlance “sick” is used in reference to something that is awe inspiring. Robitussin is also inappropriately used for recreational purposes.

I don’t know nothing is actually, very subtly, another Meek Mill diss. This hashtag that was popularized by twitter personality Charlamagne during the highly publicized feud between Drake and Meek Mill. He’s saying he doesn’t know nothing about Meek Mill, when he actually does know nothing. I mean something. Damnit, please stop with double negatives. Please. Our children are listening.

In addition to repeating Jumpman several times, Drame makes it clear that he took great pleasure in the widespread anticipation of this album.

Wow, I feel like I've just had some sort of class in rap-ology...This is ridiculous. I had no idea what these lyrics were about until your explanation, if it's correct. I find it ridiculous that I even need this explanation to understand this song, why is it all in code?
