I first heard this today while searching iTunes for something else. I've been obsessed with it all day and have probably listened to it 15 times (give me a break - it's a short song!). Her phrasing and vulnerability are so moving. Such was my obsession, that I decided to see if I could find it here. Seeing her sing it has only added to the experience. Thank you for posting this.

Don't mean to be disrespectful, but it was actually written by Charlie Chaplin. One of the most recent renditions of the song is sung by Ms. Janelle Monae. Beautiful cover, but of course, Ms. Garland is always takes the gold. Want to be romantic? Play this on a date near the water at night... i did on the Hudson river, right after the sun set, and it went very well.

How someone could think a song written in 1938 could have had its lyrics written by a 13 year old boy for a 16 year old girl is beyond me--Ned Washington wrote the words.

This might have been one of Mel Torme's arrangements. He did special material for her TV show. As I recall, he even wrote a book about it. Supposedly, Johnny Mercer wrote these lyrics for Judy Garland.

Remarkable version. My favourite with Sinatra's. Great arrangement too. Her usual melodramatic excesses are this time reserved for the end and they fit with the subdued pose of the rest of the song.
