Grandma's ApronI don't think our kids know what an apron is.The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears…From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids. And when the weather was cold grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men-folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner. It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.REMEMBER:Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw. They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.I never caught anything from an apron…But Love. (Author Unknown)This Boomer just wanted to share... Will

This has got to be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life. I remember way back when I first heard it and still love it as much today. If I ever make it to Heaven, this is the voice I want to hear singing. Another one of Judy Collins' best songs is "Big Sur" from her Bohemian album. It is one of her very finest songs, which proves just how talented this woman still is. The melody and lyrics are gorgeous. I hope she can sing until she's 90, and if I'm still here, I will be listening!

Thank you soooo much for posting this original version of Secret Gardens. I have it on LP, but have not heard it like 4EVER!!!! It brought tears to my eyes as it always did. My favorite female folk singer and album...Judy still sings like an angel!!

I suppose in our youth we all had a secret garden. Here Judy "paints" a lovableplace to "hide" as a child, and her soft gentle voice makes the garden a very specialvisit, indeed.

In her PBS concert this past year, at the Met, she sang In the Twilight, her narrative about her mother Majorie.......we learn of her mother's gardens, so the reference here is extended to that song, which is bone chilling; she sings as if she's reading a book to us...this song, and In the Twilight

I've always LOVED this song. One of her most beautiful. Her newer song "Big Sur" from Bohemian is one of the best and most beautiful songs she has written in her career as well.

Ushit! Stvarnost je ono nevidljivo što trepti poput svilene paukove mreže što titranjem odašilje nečujan zvuk. Timbal srca. A srce? Srce je ušica kroz koju je provučena paukova nit.

There isn't many songs that can stop me in my tracks , but this song is just one, simple but pure. Makes a person think about life , Judy sure had a special voice. Magical song.

Such a wonderful song. I saw Judy a couple years ago and was amazed at how clear and strong her voice was.

I have "So Early in the Spring - the First 15 Years". This and "Born to the Breed" are my favorites on it. So beautiful, sentimental, and so perfect. Judy can write as well as she can sing!!
