There WILL be more Latin on this channel. Yes, sir. Yes indeed.
From 2007's (R)Evolucion by NYC Latin funk band Ola Fresca, "El Chacal" is a deliciously grooving guajira and a scathing indictment of Ernesto "Che" Guevara, touted as a hero, with his face sold on posters and clothing to clueless teenagers who'll buy anything counterculture. Guevara was a brutal murderer who committed countless crimes against humanity and left a long trail of blood in his wake. La Cabaña is a huge fortress at the harbor entrance in Havana which in recent centuries was used as a military prison. During the Cuban revolution, for five months at the beginning of 1959, Che seized and oversaw tribunals and executions of many held within, earning him the nickname El Chacal (The Jackal) de la Cabaña.
The full lyrics, both in Spanish and translated into English, are available at http://www.olafresca.com/lyrics/revolucion09.html . For something so swinging and cool, that's a heavy piece of music, kids.
