No problemo. I've read quite a bit about Steve Marriott cuz I'm a fan and I know he was into coke, brandy and hash (among other things!). Whether or not he ever toyed around with heroin I just don't know, but he certainly was never a junkie as you already pointed out.

Yeah, you're right, I should have written just drugs. Of all the musicians on So Alone, Thunders and Lynott definitely did smack, like also Peter Perrett and later Steve Jones, they were all addicts. I was told that during the sessions for So Alone large amounts of all kinds of drugs were consumed in the studio. It's quite probable that Marriott might have tried it at some point but coke and booze were his drugs of choice, he never had the reputation of being a junkie. Thanks for correcting that

To my knowledge Steve Marriott was never into heroin. Sure he got high, snorted coke and stuff, but I'm pretty sure he stayed away from smack.

Johnny & The Heartbreakers came to the UK (end of '76) for the Anarchy Tour with Sex Pistols, The Clash & The Damned & stayed for a year. Track Records signed them for a 2 albums deal & they did the LAMF. Then Johnny had his 'Folk-Rock' songs but Jerry Nolan thought they should exploit Punk's popularity, refused to play ballads & left, so their 2nd album became Johnny's 1st solo album. London's best came to the sessions & Johnny, Lynott & Marriott got on great; they had 1 thing in common: heroin

Steve's voice takes this mother fucker to a whole new place. his voice was insane good! I loved Thunders! His music and his "story". the other day a guy said to me what is it with all these bands that do dope, blow and booze and while strung out and or high put out some really fucking classic stuff .then they go detox or clean up and the music is now just absolute garbage. i said are we talking about Aerosmith? he laughed! i didn't. awful.

I was lucky enough to know both Johnny Thunders & Steve Marriott who here is simply UNBELIEVABLE on piano, harmonica & how he sings. This is one of the best records I've ever heard. What I don't like is all this condemnation of drugs by people who know nothing about it: the problem is that they're illegal not the drugs themselves! From Marcus Aurelius through Baudelaire, Coleridge, W S Burroughs, to Otto Von Bismarck, some of humanity's greatest minds were opiate addicts... Thanks for the post!

I know this is a Johhny Thunders thread etc. I got into J Thunders when I was a kid. I have just recently listened to Humble Pie and The Small Faces. Steve's story is a very sad one too. Man, great musicians gone too soon.
