Sometime in the 70's several producers decided that the music would sell better if song by younger people and be aimed at younger people. We "Old Fogies" don't spend much and just drink beer. So they decided to create a "Profitable" "New" sound called "Hot Country".... it too awhile, but they finally got rid of us older citizens. Problem is that they still can't make money at it the way their doing it.

Damn he's good! I miss the hell out of Paycheck, and REAL country music in general. I have to pay a fortune for satellite radio just so I can hear the music that mainstream radio ignores. I can't understand how we came from this to what they call country today. I don't have a problem with whatever music they want to do, what I have a problem with is that they pushed aside and threw away the music that built the industry. I just can't understand it...

Why is it that like most musical genres these days, country music isn't as good as it used to be? This is real country - from the soul with the emphasis on emotion rather than slick production and tacky videos like now. Johnny Paycheck RIP.

Johnny Paycheck is so underrated... He stands right up thier with the GREATS of Country Music. His name should be right up thier with George Jones, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willie, but he is rarely mentioned in the same breath. He is a true legend, and a soulful singer. The man wasn't even a member of the Opry until 1997, and he's STILL not a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
