@ Greg Moody this bloke was NO lounge singer. he was the real deal and his life story was pretty rock & rolled.

I've been listening to the Iggy Pop version since it came out in 1986, and this is the first time I've ever heard the original! Thanks YT and thanks to YOU Daniela!

This is a great version of the song. The recording equipment was out of date by American standards. Their is a rawness to this one that cannot be beat.

I find the people that comment on this video aren't illiterate idiots. I commend you all my friends.

O'Keefe did not have access to all the equipment the Americans who covered the song had. Lee Gordon stopped hiring Johnny as a support act to American performers because they could not follow him.

Agreed. You can't beat them for covers of this song. But this is the guy that wrote 'Wild One' so he was at least a good songwriter. The fact that a lot of arguably more talented artists have recorded and performed it attests to that, surely.

He may have been the first to do this song, but Jerry Lee Lewis and The Crickets both did superior versions of this one.

First I hear this and it's pretty good! I'm not really from the 1950's but I wish I was there.

Actually, now that I think of it, I do remember Jerry Lee Lewis' version, so I guess I thought that was the original. I could live with that. But this lounge singer being the origin of one of my favorite songs ever? That's a hard pill to swallow.

Thinking Iggy Pop's was the original and now hearing this version, I think I just died a little.
