I've read elsewhere that the original 1959 recording was later overdubbed with reverb, and it is that version which is the only one now available.

@Borella309 no the microphone wasn't down the toilet it was attached to the roof above and robert iredale would flick a switch to get the reverb effect

Great stuff. Love this Johnny and the Delltones. Did the dunny echo predate the Spector wall of sound? ;-)

One of the greatest singers in Australia! Viva Australia! I love this song! In one occasion he sang it 33 times due to his audience request!! Immortal singer!

Still sounds great after all these years. Along with Daddy Cools' "Eagle Rock" .. this is the ultimate Oz party song .. especially when everyone is well-oiled. The Isley Bros version of this song is good .. but JOK's version leaves it for dead. JOK will always be remembered as the original Oz rock n roll legend - the pioneer - who opened up the local industry, for all those wonderful artists who followed after him during the 60s & 70s. JOK killed em at Sunbury in the 70s too !!

Arguably Australia's 1st great rock recording. Regarding the echo, I heard a radio show many years and some of those involved in this record said that they actually moved the microphone down to the toilet to get the reverb effect - I may be wrong, would welcome clarification. JOK wasn't a great singer but on this recording he does do something magical.

Holy smokes that's a lot of echo! I wonder if they recorded that in the bathroom, or if they had a real echo machine? Man! My favourite version of this often covered song, though. :)
