Johnny Nash had had this apparently innate voice- style, control, phrasing, power and sincere honesty-which, I guess,he was not supposed to have.Nat Cole, and sam cook WERE, in this regard, fortunate to have been accepted at this period of our history. He is not a reggae singer. His earliest training and performance were in gospel and classical genres. It is an awful sin that he had to sing reggae to get some form of recognition. I think of the ever-talented Donny Hathaway and his daughter. Like johnny' s, innate sincerity and beauty reside in their voice.

My mother was a single mom in the mid-60s, all we had at that time in Alabama was each other.  Although she was a "master" teacher and had her own dance school at time, she never ever failed to sing, read and talk me to sleep with this song and other meaningfully, thought-provoking song, poetry and ideas like one.  I will never forget how much it meant to me then and now... and how much it meant to her to share with.

One of my favorite singers since the late 50's. Good looking, always dressed snappy and bot could he sing. He still can sing great. He should be in the class of Lenny Welch and Johnny Mathis. Can sing anything.
