Charted at #78 on Billboard Hot 100 in November 1958. From the movie, "Houseboat" starring Cary Grant and Sophia Loren. Sam Cooke sung the song on the soundtrack of the movie and released his version as a b-side. Johnny's first hit was "A Very Precious Love" which charted at #23 during the previous year. He charted once more on the Hot 100 at #43 with "As Time Goes By" the following year before dissappearing from the chart for many years. He re-invented himself as an R&B singer and scored a hit on that chart with "Let's Move And Groove (Together)" in 1965, and by 1968, started singing reggae music which gave him a comeback beginning with "Hold Me Tight".

Written by J. Livingston and R. Evans.

B-side is "Midnight Moonlight".

The accompaniment is HORRIBLE. THe orchestra's going one way; and Nash is singing the other way. And he doesn't have to scream.

The first time I heard Johnny sing was while he was performing on the Arthur Godfrey TV Show. Shortly after, the movie "Houseboat" and this song came out and I was one of his fans. His musical talents have found a place in my life. Those years were my high school years, when one starts to spread our own wings.

johnny is a great singer , but you;ve gone of the rails when you start comparing him to sam , the version on the soundtrack is one one of the most beautiful songs i have ever herd , the version released by sam on the imperial label is nice but fall short of the ( interupted by dialogue ) soundtrack version

Great version of it. Go to the composers web site and listen to Don Costa's instrumental. I like that, too.

Johnny had a very good voice,...and he delivered perfectly. Unappreciated back in the day. Had a perfectionism you could put up against Sinatra.....and even today against Buble! jeff

You have to love the orchestra that backs Johnny on this one. This was not ranked among his big hits, and did not get the air play it deserved, however it did receive many plays at the local teen towns. For those of you that don't know what a teen town was, it was the church, school or basement were all of us kids dressed up and hung out. This One Is HOT! A St.Louis music lover

I always loved this version by Johnny. No one else can sing it like he did, not even the great Sam Cooke. This version is thumbs up all the way. I finally found an MP3 of it, and will treasure it always.

When I wrote "from the movie", I"m referring to the song which is indeed from the movie Houseboat. Sam Cooke sung it on the soundtrack of the movie and released it as a b-side, whereas Johnny released it as an a-side and charted with it.

this is not from houseboat. Sam Cooke did the Houseboat song.

Such a perfect arrangement and sound, with a singer on par with Johnny Mathis and Sam Cooke.
