I love just about everything Johnny Mathis sings and that's why this is a Johnny Mathis channel. However, I have about 100 songs of Johnny's that I do admit that I play over and over and they take turns being number one for me. This one happens to be one of those top one hundred. Who doesn't dream of real love from youth to old age and beyond! Johnny makes you believe it's more than possible in this beautiful song.
According to my friend Maria (19rebel57) "My Love For You" was first recorded and released as a Columbia Records' single in 1960, with "Oh, That Feeling" on the flip side. In England, a single of "My Love For You" was also released in 1960, on Fontana Records, and it became a big hit over there.
In 1961, a 3rd Greatest Hits-style album was released by Columbia
Records, entitled PORTRAIT OF JOHNNY, which had "My Love For You" and "Oh, That Feeling," as two of the songs included.
A tidbit for UK fans: It was Maria who convinced Johnny Mathis that he must sing "My Love For You" for the British at his October, 2011 concerts in England. He sang it in a softer and sweeter style, that was simply beautiful. Maria told me that she watched him rehearse "My Love For You" in September, 2011, the month before he went to England. She congratulated him on the decision to sing "My Love For You" and in such a wonderful style. He replied, "Well, you put it on the list of songs I must sing in England, so I thought I had better do that" and he smiled. So, I guess all of you UK fans can thank Maria for this wonderful song being sung on Johnny's last visit.
