I was amazed of how well this song fitted in "Gremlins". The whole idea of a record with a "happy" song starting to play "by itself" is used in the movie "Insidious" aswell as "Annabelle". Was the Gremlins perhaps the first movie to introduce this movie-effect?

Johnny is one of my fave singers since I was a kid. But I recall when someone commented that he sounds a bit creepy at the start of the song! Heheheheh I cannot deny that, perhaps that is why the Gremlins' producers used his carol haheheh. Anyway I love Johnny's singing and personality and enjoy his songs (carols too) so much!

Yes, every time I hear this, (Mathis' rendition), it makes me, too, think of the movie "Gremlins," (you will hear it during the scene where Billy's mom learns from him, over the phone, that the gremlins have just hatched, and she suddenly starts hearing this, from downstairs-the little creatures have just put it on the record player-remember the days of LPs, speaking of which?) Anyway, it's the part heard at 1:15, when Mrs. Peltzer shuts the phonograph off(with a voice....). Thanks for posting; Mathis was one of the best Xmas song singers.
