"Thirsty Boots" was written by Eric Andersen back in the mid-1960s. It's a Civil Rights song. He had a friend who went down to Mississippi as part of a civil rights movement. This song is about his friend's return from that trip. Eric started the song at one point but never finished it. The late Phil Ochs encouraged him to finish it, and the song is now pretty much dedicated to Phil Ochs, RIP. And RIP John Denver, too. We miss you both.

I didn't realize that John Denver had recorded this, but after listening, well...who better, other the Anderson, to sing this wonderful song...

This is my favorite Civil Rights song - and no one does it better than John Denver. We all owe so much to these early Civil Rights workers!

@gropingwithastoker I didn't claim that it was "about" Phil, I claimed that it was about one of Eric's friends (don't know that friend's name). I just said that the song was ultimately dedicated to Phil.
