I live about an hour from northhampton. I'll have to come see you play sometime. Not much fiddle music down here in ct. sounds good

John Brown sure came to Florence! He was a member of the Sanford Street Church in Springfield (now, rather radically, called "St. John's Congregational" in his memory).

tunearch(DOT)org claims that it predates Harper's Ferry and lists several songs that it is supposedly derived from. I don't know one way or the other, but it was some beautiful playing nonetheless.

Congratulations! That's wonderful and exciting for you. I'm guessing Bart Reiter? Looks pretty, and well up to the task whatever you have there.

Sure. Ron Pen, at University of Kentucky, and Franklin George, a fiddler and piper from WV. As are all things "folk", there's always room for a conversation with many answers. As I said, though, great playing.

Fantastic playing! But. . . the John Brown this tune is named after isn't the abolitionist. He was a fiddler.
