This guy is great! Really digging his music. There's an acoustic band called "The Witness" from where I live that reminds me a lot of this guy. Check out the video for their new song "Somewhere Else To Go". If you like Joe Purdy you'll probably like them too

I've always wondered what his guitar is, all I know is it's an old Gibson but I have always loved it's look and sound.

That looks a lot like my old Gibson from the fifties. I don't think his internal pickup system is doing it's tone any justice though. Those old guitars need to have a mic out in front of the sound hole where they can breath, even it's not always practical live. If anyone's interested, I have a quick vid of my mine on my page. Joe Purdy is really good though.
