I've since heard 3 different versions of "Cathedrals" by Ramin Karimloo, Joan Osborne, and Jump, Little Children--in that very order. I do get the sense that the song is supposed to be somewhat melancholic and about finding oneself. Which version is better depends on your personal tastes. It would seem to me that the original should be quite good.

@thatlibra if you have a clip or a story about that interview, i'd be very interested in seeing/hearing it. it would be completely out of character for joan. first, she is a terrific songwriter who doesn't need to take credit for anything she hasn't written. second, i've seen her in concert many times and she goes out of her way to mention the writers of covers that she does. that doesn't mean you're wrong, but i'd like to see it for myself.
