Jo Stafford is one of my favorite pop vocalists, but I respectfully suggest that Ella Fitzgerald really "owns" the vocal recording of "Midnight Sun."

Johnny Mercer is a lyricist and poet of the heart and his words have life. Jo Stafford is one of the greatest singers coming out of the 1940s. For another interpretatioon, listen to Nancy Wilson recording of Midnight Sun.

A beautiful song from an era when music was music. Jo handles this not too easy to master song with ease. She was just great. Thank you for sharing this gem.

This is a nice version. I still like June's one, perhaps the larger band gives it something extra. Fortunately I was able to get a copy from the radio, not good reproduction, but adequate.

This is a BITCH of a song to sing, with so many key changes, but it's "a day at the beach" for the super-talented Jo. You could try and teach Madonna to sing this for five YEARS and she'd never get past the first four bars. God, how the music biz has deteriorated....all geared to 14 year olds with too much spending money!

A great singer with material worthy of her talent and tasteful and subtly subdued accompaniement. I have heard that Columbia had just a few remaining albums on her contract with them and almost as an afterthought they decided to have her do the remaining ones with a jazz motif. The other one I am familiar with was the Art VanDamme album she did--makes me wish she had the chance to have done a dozen more of them.
