Kenny is a brilliant comper and master of tastefully altered voicings, I learned from frequently watching him play at The Lighthouse in the 60's, that tape and cardboard on JS's B-3 looks to me like a little protection so the organ and piano don't get scratched. there is tape lying on top of the piano as well. Kenny's still touring bless him! cliffintokyo

in all organ trios the organist's left hand or feet is the bass player, that's what is cool about organ trios, you just need three people to play drums, bassline, chords and melody/improvisation

Was there a bass player on this tune? It sounded so full, kinda didnt miss one...what do you guys think?...trying my best to remember a piece JS did back in the day with him and a sax player doing the main theme...also had a bad guitar player in there....I know I need to give more info but can any one help with this??? Would be sooo greatful!!

yea i didnt know what it was. just thought it looked funny. after looking back. i see its only on one side of the organ. yeah. i dont know why you all get so crazy about it thought. sorry. i just thought it was funny that there was a piece of trash taped to it. don't see what its blocking either if its a baffle. though its right next to that grand piano. hmmm...

@37sikora That cardboard must be a low-tech sound baffle improvised by the recording engineers. I never saw Jimmy "hide his feet" when I heard him play live. I learned how to read the pedal board from watching Jimmy's feet for years, a skill which helped me survive when I started playing gospel. I would follow the bass part to pick up an unfamiliar tune at church.

@37sikora What makes you think Jimmy is trying to hide his feet? I would assume (As you have) that cardboard is to cover up the name of perhaps the rental company that owns the organ or some corporate logo.If he were trying to hide his feet they would have given him a C3 which has the inclosed cabinet.
