I just visited with a guy down the street from me that was a drummer for this band. Very nice guy! Can't remember his name but he's coming down and maybe jam with us tonight. Race Ave. Blues.

i remember trying to dial our rotary phone quickly to call the local top 50 radio station to win prizes. once i had to identify the song that was played about a half an hour prior to the contest....i knew it was "Sugar Shack"...i called it in, was like the 9th caller, and i won a large Pizza Hut pizza when it was a brand new restaurant throughout the USA...

I was 6 years old (I'm 60 now) and my Dad was the one who played music and brought it into the house. I remember standing on my Dad's feet while we danced me around the living room to this song. It will be 17 years tomorrow that he is gone....but he introduced me to all genre's of music and I love music and all it's varieties to this day.

Songs back then had tender sentiments that aren't overlaid with overtly sexual overtones. This song has a lighthearted sweetness to it. These boys from New Mexico probably didn't expect this to be #1 on the Billboard 100 for many weeks in 1963. It's totally unique and extremely catchy. I replay it over and over and over. Love this video seeing them play it live. Jimmy Gilmer's voice has such a pure sound.

I must have been about seven years old when my cousin Roland Fore came home with this on 45rpm wax. We fell in love with it my sister's and I. Strange, none of them remember the OLDIES but me. Songs like "Boney Marony," and others; but I am the eldest. Not by much though. I guess I have a better memory. But those songs from back then mean a lot to me. Memories that will not die until I do, or the system ends first. They just don't make music like that anymore.
