This album is the first album I ever loved. I bought it on for 50p back in 87 (or 88) believing I was buying a Michael Jackson tape. I'm glad I was lied to. Still have the original tape. This song is special. Makes me cry

I bought this the day it came out, way back in the day as a freshman in high school. What I love about Jim's versions of the songs is his use of the choir. He's not as strong of a singer as Meatloaf, so he compensated by utilizing the amazing voice talents he had available to him by introducing the call and response style of choral reprise into the arrangements. Meatloaf's versions are good, because Meatloaf is awesome, but there is something so magical about Jim's arrangements on this album that are lacking in Meat's versions.

Without one you wouldn't have the other! Which ever way you look at it, it's clearly just what works for them!..If you love the music then you gotta love em both!

Jim wrote a ton of songs that became hits, without Meat Loaf's assistance. To name a few, It's All Coming Back to Me Now, Read 'Em and Weep, Total Eclipse. All songs that hit number one on the charts, with no Meat Loaf in sight.

@debfan74 Jim Steinman was not the vocal on this. Look at the other comments, it was Rory Dodd. He did two tracks on this album.

On this album Jim Steinman did the vocals on all tracks except two, this one and Surfs Up. The lead vocs are done by Rory Dodd on those two. Jim and Rory have the same-ish tenor but Rory is by far the better singer, thats why they hired him. I'm guessing the slower slongs would have found Jim out vocal wise, no guitars to hide behind. Side note, Rory Dodd same the 'turn around bright eyes' bit on Total Eclipse..

It is a major shame Jim Steinman was not credited as a singer....he has a great vocal!!! If he could not sing, how he could he come up with all the brilliant songs he wrote? I think some critics were too hard on this talented guy!!

Meatloaf has had some great composers & producers behind him, Steinman for one and ,Todd Rundgren another. From listening to Meatloaf I went out and got Steinman's work including this album & Todd Rundgren's.If anyone hasn't heard Todd's 'Nearly Human' album then you should get it.There wasnt a song on it that wasn't excellent.

@MrXinnerx That's not entirely true - Welcome to the Neighborhood was not a Steinman project, and it is a good album. It went platinum in the U.S.

@fignon Yeah... isn't a coincidence that the non-Steinman projects did not do well for the Loaf...

Rory Dodd is the vocalist not Jim

Steinman can write amazing songs. He doesn't sing them as well as Meat Loaf though. Thats why they were so great together. A great writer and a great singer

@cabe1122 Without Meat's voice, we've would not have known anything about Jim's genius. It was a symbotic collaberation.

@arp70blue This is Jim Steinmann singing. Meat Loaf covered it in 1992. Did a better job, IMO.
