wow, never knew he died in a plane crash. This is one of my favorite songs because it is what I had to listen to when I drove my grandparents to Houston wheni got my license in '97. Song has stuck with me since.

On this day in 1959 {Jan. 20th} Jim Reeves performed "Billy Bayou" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' One month earlier on Dec. 8th, 1958 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart for a one week stay at #95 It did better on the country charts; on January 19th it reached #1 {for 5 weeks} on Billboard's Hot C&W Side charts & stayed on that chart for 25 weeks Sadly Jim Reeves passed away on July 31st, 1964 at the young age of 40 {plane crash} RIP Mr. Reeves and Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}
