Became friends with the band in Greenwich Village in the 60's. Loved their music and still do.

thendrjazz - I hear a mandolin at the start of this tune. I'm guessing Geoff, since he's pictured with one in the video. I know that Bob Siggins played mandolin on the first record.

Taking a Tin Pan Alley song and making it an old-time/jug band hit. I loved these guys back when the first Kweskin album came out and still love them all these years later!

Maria and Geoff weren't married yet, so she was Maria D'Amato. I saw them at some small theatre at Harvard about this time.

This is so great, grew up in Portland Me. and would see them at Newport Folk Festivals in 1966~68. They were such a rich band from Art Hodes Ma Rainey to Blind Willie McTell. Represent!!!

I was feeling blue and just listen to Jim and the band again and smiles are now on my face. Good people, good times, good memories. Thanks again,

This was released in 1965 on their second Vanguard album, Jug Band Music. The group on this tune included Jim Kweskin, g-vcl; Geoff Muldaur, g; Bill Keith, bj, Mel Lyman, harmonica, and Fritz Richmond, the king of the washtub bass. I remember some of their shows at the Club 47 in Cambridge. I know Maria Muldaur was in the band when the record was released. I think she was already in when this tune was recorded but she's not heard on this cut.
