New York's Not My Home

Lyrics/Music: Jim Croce

Well things were spinnin' round me

And all my thoughts were cloudy

And I had begun to doubt

All the things that were me

Been in so many places

You know I've run so many races

And looked into the empty faces

Of the people of the night

And something is just not right

And I know that I gotta get out of here

I'm so alone

Don't you know that I gotta get out of here

'Cause New York's not my home

Though all the streets are crowded

There's something strange about it

I lived there 'bout a year

And I never once felt at home

I thought I'd make the big time

I learned a lot of lessons awful quick

And now I'm tellin' you

That they were not the nice kind

And it's been so long since I have felt fine

That's the reason that I gotta get out of here

I'm so alone

Don't you know that I gotta get out of here

'Cause New York's not my home

(repeat)

am an army wife, and so proud, but sometimes this is exactly how I felt, enough said, survived, for the greater good, so proud of my Vietnam Vets

Just two voices and two guitars. Don't get me wrong, I loved amped R n R, but Croce was just sublime.

IMO the most talented musical duo to have ever played. I'm 32 years old, and I've listened to Jim and Maury since I was a little boy. My father was a radio DJ for a long time, and Ive listened to everything from Led Zeppelin to blink182, to James Taylor and heart, but I always find myself humming to Jim's songs. I've always thought that his music meant so much more than anyone else's. The way he portrays a character with such sorrow, the words that provoke memories, some happy, some sad, always hit deep inside my soul. He was a painter across the musical canvas, and for a short time, he was the greatest. Thank you Jim, for saving my soul, with your poetic and timeless words.....photographs and memories, the Christmas cards you sent to me....

gee.. thanks for your "remastering" LOL (not improved) version, ie. chopping off the top and bottom of the screen. This was shot for TV screens. Not everything needs to be or should be in 16:9. Where's that thumbs down button..

I think it is amazing that a guy who died long before i was born, can write songs and i can feel every single word. Love you Jim.

I cant understand why back in the late 60's early 70's there was musicians like this along with numerous others that sat down and played acoustic rhythm and harmonized and it was so intense and deeply moving and also very popular to the listening audience and just seem to vanish ?. It's obvious through the years that anytime a heartfelt ballad is played with an acoustic by either a country or rock artist it is well received. I miss this time.
