You are aware that good music is still being made, right? It's not like JFA were a chart topping band of their time. They were still rather underground compared to other acts of that time. Today's music is just as good as it was back then, you just gotta know where to look.

I am a surf music fan and collector. I got into it around 1963. I truly enjoy bands like JFA and Agent Orange doing covers of these instrumental tunes from the 60s. However, The Ventures were not a surf band. They made only one 'surf" themed album, and it was weak. Now, when they released the LP Walk Don't Run '64, they did a much better job at recreating the 'surf' sound.Their tune Diamond Head is a good example of this. But please don't mistake them for a real surf music band.

"what i dont completely understand is why jfa covered surf theme songs." Because surf music was completely uncool and not on commercial radio in the early '80s, and that made us kiddie punks drawn to it. It had nothing to do with actual surfing. (Search for Agent Orange doing Pipeline -- that was a BIG song circa 1982.)

I didn't know that they offended surfers so much; more of just a different sport. I think that they were influenced by surf and listened to it while skating. I mean, not to say they wouldn't make fun of each other, but just all in teen-angst humor and all that. There were no haters back then. It was the establishment and then there was everybody else.

@Bonersoup183 Man, I was like 14 when I bought a JFA album in 1986, and it was old then. We were the outcasts in our school. We skated and hung out. It wasn't any better then than what you've got now. Just enjoy it and have fun. You're only young once, and you can have fun doing your own thing wherever and whenever you are. But just like you, when I was 13, I thought our scene sucked and wanted to be a teenager back in the 70's. C'est la vie.

@Bonersoup183 I'm in my 40's grew up around these guys in arizona....Great times. We were few and our shit was not popular, we were not popular. Shit material music and people existed then as well. Our music was not on the radio here in AZ. Word of mouth and shows is all we had. Btw no surfing in arizona yet. JFA had a great surf sound but It was all skateboarding here.

I'm 13 and wish I was around in this time. Not with this stupid materialistic kids I have to deal with at school. It pisses me off that I have to bear with all this shitty music now of days. Fucking kesha and lady gaga. I would kill to be in the 80's, going to jfa shows and surfing with friends.
