Probably my favourite JTB song but thats hard to say. What isn't hard to say, is that Blake did infact partially write this song with inspiration from dreams he had about his cat that had died... so people, stop being jerks and telling others to stop reminiscing about their cats when Blake himself was in some way doing the same.

Ha I'm sorry but half the posts on here are retarded, this song is a metaphor for craving unattained desires in relation to love. He [the artist] goes through this flowery explanation of a dream world where he's shown a cute cat is standing in flowers by his desired lover amongst the stars, and then starts to paint us a picture of him being with this dream girl. "Then the birds came and carried us to the sky and married us", this is where he shows us exactly his minds desire to be forever with this girl. The world he's built up then starts to decay right after he says, "this world had just begun, to live." He then repeats the line 'don't wake me up' over and over again displaying to us that from the very beginning it had been a dream all along. He then starts to show how in the dream world he had forgiven all of the transgressions against himself. "Captain please consider me, let this boat deliver me, drive, captain drive! It's time for everything to be perfect, for everything to stop hurting, tonight." He wants to be taken back to the dream world. He then says don't wake me up again and again. This song is about someone who escapes the torments of unattained love through the blissful creation that is his dream. This song has nothing to do with cats, or heaven, or missing your lost kitty.Thumb me down, I'm an asshole.

Actually it started from losing a cat. He missed it and dreamed about it and the dream expanded to life. It's symbolic about dreams giving us what we want and then waking up to having non of it.

This song is not about a cat. Why are there so many people talking about their cats that died? I don't mean to be insensitive, I would be very hurt if my cat died, but that's not what this song is about.
