*"One White Duck; 0^{10} = Nothing At All" - Jethro Tull**Aus dem Album "Minstrel In The Gallery" von 1975. Auch eines der Sahnestücke meiner Lieblingsband - sowohl der Song wie auch das ganze Album.*Dieses Album wurde in der nach meinem Empfinden besten Besetzung der Band aller Zeiten produziert:Ian Anderson - flute, acoustic guitar, vocalsMartin Barre - electric guitarsJohn Evan - piano and organJeffrey Hammond - bass guitar and string bassBarriemore Barlow - drums, percussion*Hope you`ll enjoy my music!*

As a young man, I knew this music somehow was real and cut through all the shit. I haven't heard this song for 30 years and it feels like yesterday.

There's a haze on the skyline, to wish me on my way.And there's a note on the telephone... some roses on atray. And the motorway's stretching right out to us all,as I pull on my old wings... one white duckon your wall.Isn't it just too damn real?I'll catch a ride on your violin... strung upon your bow.And I'll float on your melody... sing your chorus softand low. There's a picture-view postcard to say that I called. You can see from the fireplace, one white duckon your wall.Isn't it just too damn real?So fly away Peter and fly away Paul... from thefinger-tip ledge of contentment. The long restless rustle of high-heeled boots calls. And I'm probably bound to deceive you after all.Something must be wrong with me and my brain...if I'm so patently unrewarding. But my dreams are for dreaming and best left thatway... and my zero to your power of ten equalsnothing at all. There's no double-lock defense; there's no chain on my door.I'm available for consultation,But remember your way in is also my way out, andlove's four-letter word is no compensation.Well, I'm the Black Ace dog-handler: I'm a waiter onskates... so don't you jump to your foreskin conclusion.Because I'm up to my deaf ears in cold breakfast trays...to be cleared before I can dine on your sweet Sundaylunch confusion... ...........:)O(:...........

I love the meaning I get to this song when I read between the lines! The way I understand it is that it is being quoted by a call girl who is striving to build a better life and get out of the trade. The beginning is where she in in a man's penthouse. He has left for his job, and she is now leaving after being allowed to stay all night. "There's a haze on the skyline to wish me on my way. And there's a note on the telephone, some roses on a try. And the motorway, stretching, right out to us all. You can see from the fireplace, one white duck on your wall (Isn't it just too damn real)! "One white duck on your wall" (He bagged another trophy. Her)! (Sexually implied) "I'll catch a ride on your violin, strum upon your bow, and I'll float on your melody, singing chorus' soft and low" - There's a picture view postcard to say that I called. You can see from the fireplace, one white duck....etc. (Once again stating she is another man's trophy). (She thinks in her head) "So fly away Peter, and fly away Paul, from the fingertip ledge of contentment, (of being a high priced call girl) well, the long restless rustle of (her) high heeled boots call, and I am probably bound to deceive you (her John), after all". (She further thinks) "Something must be wrong with me and my brain, if I'm so faithfully unrewarding, but my dreams are for dreaming, and best left that way, (dreams of a new and different life) and my "zero" (her vagina) to your "power of 10" (his manhood) equals "nothing" (emotionally or romantically) at all"! (Further thinking to herself) "There's no no double lock defenses, no chain on my door, and I'm available for consultation, (available for sex),BUT remember you way in, (in her) is also my way out, (of this life and profession), and love's four letter word (F***) is no compensation"! (Means nothing to her). The last part of the song seems to sound as if she has gotten a new job and life, but is saying that things haven't gone quite as planned, and money is tight, so she needs to wrap things up at her new occupation at some eatery before she can come pleasure her John. (Still hoping to one day break away). That is what I get. Anyone else??
