JETHRO TULL

Aqualung, 1971

"Cheap Day Return" (1:21) & "Mother Goose" (3:51)

Recorded: Dec 1970 - Feb 1971

Released: March 1971

U.K.

Genre: Progressive Rock, Folk Rock, Hard Rock

-----

(from wikipedia.com):

On 'Mother Goose',

"The lyrics are a pastiche of surreal figures based on images that Ian Anderson saw while wandering around Hampstead Heath. The song is mostly acoustic much like "Cheap Day Return" or "Slipstream", from the same album."

-----

(on album)

Ian Anderson: Vocals, acoustic guitar, flute

Martin Barre: electric guitar, descant recorder

Jeffrey Hammond (as "Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond"): bass guitar, alto recorder and odd voices

Clive Bunker: drums and percussion

----

----

I mainly uploaded this one as i couldn't find a 'proper' Aqualung' version here, so i thought i'd share.

Trying not to duplicate, but it happens.

Great to re-visit these tunes after not hearing them (or Classic album) 4 too long. I'll be whistling "Mother Goose" 4 days now. :-) Used to do same thing when I was blasting this 8-track as a teenager. Playing air guitar along with Martin Barre, naturally. :-) Lucky enough to have seen them in Memphis, Tn., Halloween night 1979 on "Stormwatch" Tour. Though they were promoting new album & set-list reflected this, "Aqualung" was pretty well covered in it's entirety, as I recall. Very well :D

Mother Goose may be nonsense, but--like Thick as a Brick--it's brilliant nonsense.

@issu100 - I, too, wish 'both songs' were "neverending!" I love this kind of 'classical-style' guitar playing! And...the guitar was/is played by the genus flautist/singer/songwriter of Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson. His daughter is married to the star of "The Walking Dead," Andrew Lincoln. Ian Anderson is infallable in EVERYTHING, it seems! :)
